Surprise double figure tench a welcome capture

Neil Mitchell’s latest carp fishing session threw up a more than welcome surprise.

Fishing with his family, the specimen angler had a screaming run at 2am in the pouring rain, and following an impressive fight that he assumed was from a mid double carp, a tench of 11lb 2oz tench came to the net.

The big tinca, that also set a new lake record, was taken by the 36-year-old from Stalbridge, Dorset, when he fished his local Milton Abbas syndicate lake.

Spodding 5kg of mixed particles at 45yds, Neil presented his CC Moores Odyssey XXX boilies on chod rigs over light weed, a tactic that not only proved irresistible to two smaller tench, but the resident carp as well with Neil banking three to a best of 20lb 10oz.
