When Gloucestershire angler Neil Lawrence went for a session on his local Gloucester and Sharpness Canal, the last thing he expected to see was a near-20lb salmon. But the size and species of fish was only half the surprise.
“I was just sitting there minding my own business and happily fishing when it leapt out of the water and landed on the concrete not far down the tow path,” a shocked Neil told AT.
“It was flapping around on the bank, but I managed to get hold of it and fire off a quick photo. I was totally amazed by what had happened!”
After taking the picture for posterity, Neil released the fish back into the water, where it swam off none the worse for its encounter.
