Potential new Scottish record roach caught

This potential Scottish record roach weighing 4lb 2oz 8dr was caught by Mark Stone while targeting an elusive common carp in Culcreuch Castle Loch, Stirling.

The 37-year-old self-employed builder scaled down his baits in a bid to fool the specimen, feeding a mix of casters, brown crumb, liquidised liver and 10mm Nutrabaits Cranberry Nutrafruits boilies over a clear area in the weed.

A hair-rigged boilie tipped with an artificial caster presented over the top received a stuttery take at dawn and Mark struck into what he at first thought was a small common.

The current national record for the species stands at 4lb and was caught from the same venue in June 2007.
