Gord Burton may be better known as ‘The Piking Pirate’ but he’s no slouch at catching other species, as he showed by banking this personal-best 4lb 7oz perch from Scotland’s Loch Ken last week.
The impressive specimen took a paternostered roach/bream hybrid which the Southport-based angler cast to the edge of a lily bed on a drop-off into 25ft of water at the 11-mile-long venue, in Dumfries and Galloway.
“Loch Ken is one of my favourite venues of all time, and as this fish lay there in the palm of my hand I realised that it was the biggest perch I’d ever seen.
“It seemed to be spawned out, so God only knows how big it would have been if I’d caught it a month ago. The pike fishing on Loch Ken is really tough at present, but catching this very special fish more than makes up for it!” said a delighted Gord.
