This year’s Go Fishing show was hailed an unprecedented success as thousands poured though the gates at Cudmore Fisheries in Staffordshire to see some of the sport’s biggest names and snap up bargains from all the leading brands.
Among the show’s highlights were Martin Bowler and John Wilson revealing the stories behind their TV successes, while Matt Hayes and Mick Brown entertained the crowds with live demos. Retailers’ fears that the recession would hit sales proved unfounded, with most reporting buoyant sales from visitors keen to take advantage of the wealth of cut price deals on offer.
It was the second year of the show’s new outdoor format, which also incorporated the Fish O’Mania final, an event which saw the most exciting climax in years as former world champion Tommy Pickering had the title and £25,000 payout snatched from his grasp in the dying minutes by Neil McKinnon.
Angling Times editor Rich Lee said: “It just goes to show how many anglers are prepared to turn out if you get the set-up right. The early feedback from the feature area was very positive, and everyone seemed to be going home with a smile on their face and a bargain under their arm. Next year’s show promises to be even bigger and better.”
