A unique boilie entitled The Chav’s Breakfast has been chosen as winner of our ‘Create A Bait’ competition run in conjunction with carp company Nash.
Over the last six weeks, more than 500 entries were submitted by AT readers, each hoping to see their ingenious recipe ideas made into a full range of baits by Kevin Nash and his staff.
Entrants left no stone unturned in their quest for the perfect mix, but in the end it was Shropshire-based William Smith who became the envy of every DIY bait creator.
Kevin Nash praised the 38-year-old’s entry – which incorporates flavours from the cult energy drink Red Bull, as well as popular snacks Monster Munch, Wotsits and bubble gum – as being the ‘best thought out’ and ‘most marketable’, as well as possessing ingredients that have proven carp-catching qualities.
“It shows that in times of recession anglers have adapted by coming up with ingenious recipes using everyday ingredients – Will’s great thinking is a perfect example,” said Kevin.
Nash bait guru Gary Bayes was also full of praise for the winner, who he believes may have stumbled upon a great flavour combination.
“The Chav’s Breakfast is a classic. I’ve spent nearly 30 years creating hugely-popular recipes, but have never used any of these products before so I’m looking forward to mixing this recipe up, and indeed fishing with it when I meet up with the winner,” said Gary.
Will is set to travel to Nash’s headquarters in Essex to witness the creation of his bait, before joining Gary at an exclusive Essex water to put the mix through its paces. Will revealed how he came up with his idea.
“I began creating my own baits because I couldn’t afford to buy boilies. I started using anything I could find,” he said.
“The Chav’s Breakfast has already fooled carp to over 20lb when I’ve used it. Nevertheless, I still can’t believe that my recipe is going to be made into a ‘proper’ bait by the experts!”
