Scottish eel record weight has been equalled

A legered trout head accounted for this superb 6lb 2oz eel, which equals the Scottish record and was caught by Chris Daphne during an overnight session on an undisclosed loch.

The 40-year-old Lairg, Scotland-based fish scientist targeted a deep shelf 20yds from the bank and, after missing his first two bites, eventually connected with the huge fish at 1am.

“It just stayed deep and it wasn’t until I tried to net it that I realised how big the fish was,” he said. “It took several attempts to actually get it in the net as it was so long.”
