Lee Swords takes 320lb of River Trent barbel

A red letter 48-hour barbel session saw Trent maestro Lee Swords bank more than 50 barbel, including five doubles to 13lb 5oz, for an estimated 320lb haul.

The Sheffield-based chef fished various Teme-Severn pellet hookbaits on a pair of rods, catching all but three of his barbel during darkness.

“I was fishing on the tidal, but really struggled for bites during the day despite fishing the cutest and sneakiest of rigs – the river’s that low and clear,” said Don Valley Specimen Group member Lee, whose biggest fish fell only 1oz 8dr short of his current best.

“My killer bait over the session was a pair of hair-rigged Teme-Severn salmon elips pellets wrapped in a paste made from their Mini Mix pellets and Barbel Pro-Activator liquid,” he added.
