Keeping it light pays off with 12lb 10oz zander

A few tiny adjustments to his set-up helped Paul Cockfield bank this 12lb 10oz zander during a session at the prolific Bury Hill Fishery, in Surrey.

After struggling to hit runs in previous sessions, the Reading-based rod decided to use extra light bobbins to create a low resistance leger rig.

Having struggled during daylight, the service engineer persevered and was rewarded after the specimen picked up his dead roach hookbait just on dark.

“I’ve suffered loads of aborted takes in the past, and although my new sensitive set-up doesn’t eliminate them totally, they definitely improve things. It was a tough day, but a big fish like that makes the wait all worthwhile,” said Paul.
