Big barbel caught from the River Kennet

Here's a lovely River Kennet barbel caught on luncheon meat. It had to be held hard as it was hooked close to some serious snags, and that was a great end to a lovely day - I had lost a large double earlier and been chased by a bull.

I really did not expect this on the last cast of the day.

The tackle I used was a JW Young 12 ft Barbel with white tip. It really did the job well. It was coupled with a Shimano Baitrunner 5010 loaded with 10lb Silstar match line.

I really like this line as it has a low diameter, low stretch. I used a size 6 Korda hook, one double size swan shot then three normal shot 1 ft up the line then space out over a 12inches

And a very large lump of meat bought from Tadley Tackle in Tadley the week before - they make a nice cup of tea too!
