4lb River Medway perch banked

Young Evan Burdett became the envy of many a perch angler when he banked this superb 4lb specimen during a session on the River Medway.

After seeing a number of perch while pike fishing with his father on a stretch of the waterway near his home in Maidstone, Kent, the 12-year-old decided to change to his tactics to a running leger rig with a single lobworm hookbait.

It proved to be one of the best decisions he’s ever made as the tip of his faithful John Wilson Avon rod whipped round as soon as his bait hit the bottom.

The fish beats his previous best for the species by 2lb and was beaten with a size 10 hook attached to 5lb line.
