Dave ‘Sherpa’ Haughton experienced the ‘best session of his life’, taking a five-fish catch from Acton Burnell’s Lower Lake, topped by the venue’s most sought-after inhabitant ‘Bill’ at 47lb 4oz.
When he arrived at the seven acre Shropshire syndicate, the 40-year-old architect saw what he thought was a carp close to a hard spot in the margins. His suspicions were confirmed when he started receiving line bites almost instantly, and over three days he landed mirrors of 39lb 6oz, 35lb 8oz, 33lb 4oz and 31lb 4oz before banking the huge common on the final evening.
“The lake only holds around 20 fish, so to catch five of them in a session is incredible,” explained the Shrewsbury-based rod.
Mainline Activ-8 dumbbell hookbaits in conjunction with small PVA bags of Bankside Tackle Grubber pellets on size 6 Korda Wide Gape hooks and 12lb Kryston Super-Nova hooklinks did the business for Dave.
