Wensum Barbel Record Falls Again

STEVE Hunt’s River Wensum record has been caught again – this time just 4oz heavier at 20lb 12oz.

The fish, known as The Beast, was taken by Mark Rylands (40), and is the second time the Norfolk angler has banked the fish after first landing it at 17lb 14oz last summer.

It sets a new best for the river, and is the biggest barbel so far this season.

“I sat on my hands while the chub picked my bait up a few times – I’ve found the big barbel tend to follow the chub around, mopping up the bait that they leave,” explained Mark, who tempted the huge specimen an hour after casting out half a 14mm homemade boilie.
