New angling club launched for youngsters

A new fishing club is to be launched for local children by Whitby Angling Supplies.

The Haggersgate-based business aims to encourage young anglers under 16 into the sport and help them financially and with advice and information.

Membership is free and gives children the following benefits:

10% discount on rods, reels and tackle bought for own use

Regular competitions as well as special offers

Dedicated times when they can ask questions, seek advice and discuss ideas or problems relating to their fishing

Birthday card and present from Whitby Angling Supplies

Once members reach 16, they are no longer eligible for membership but will receive a loyalty card which will offer them a 5% discount on further purchases.

Owner of Whitby Angling Supplies, Jackie Greaves, said youngsters can be keen to get into fishing but sometimes don’t have anyone in the family with any knowledge or experience in fishing.

Others come from fishing families and can share the knowledge passed onto them to others.

“Although the price of fishing tackle has come down considerably over the past few years, it can still be an expensive hobby for youngsters and therefore advice on what would be best and special offers and discounts should go a long way to help them,” she said.

“It is also important they have information on where it is safe to fish.”

Young anglers can collect membership forms from Whitby Angling Supplies at 65 Haggersgate.
