News is just coming in of three different barbel river records being broken thanks to the incredibly mild January weather.
With warm, coloured floodwater raging through most river systems over recent weeks it was inevitable that the nation's barbel anglers would be out in force making the most of the ideal conditions.
And with fish slowly approaching their optimum weight and feeding hard in preparation for another round of spawning come spring, the possibility of some river records being broken was always on the cards.
The common thread that links all three captures is the high attract, smelly hookbaits that all three specimens were caught on. Most popular amongst those being a large 18mm or 21mm halibut pellet thoroughly glugged to improve its scent trail once it is cast out.
