Carp rods spearhead new coarse fishing gear

Following its successful launch into the game fishing world, new tackle company Sonik have expanded into the coarse fishing market with two new ranges of carp rod.

And in a bid to keep prices low and quality high, the Northern-based outfit is initially selling direct from its own website – cutting out the middle man.

Sonik’s commercial director Ian McCormack confirms there is more to come, including feeder and float rods for 2009.

He said: “I have spent many years in the tackle trade and I know if you don’t sell rods at the start of a business launch, then you’ll never sell them. That will be our core concern in the early days, before we bring out other items such as luggage.
“Our on-line selling policy works in a similar way to Dell computers – with fewer people in the chain, the angler gets a great piece of kit at a good price.”

There are two carp rod ranges available – the SK3 at £99.99 and the SK4 at £149.99 – both on a ‘two for the price of three’ promotion.

Three more rods – spod, marker and margin – will be available by September. And early tests by AT’s sister publication UKCarp tell us that the SK range not only looks fantastic, but delivers exceptional performance.

Fears that sales could be capped by anglers being unable to ‘touch and feel’ the gear in a shop have been overcome by a 28-day returns guarantee. But Ian McCormack is confident that once someone has a Sonik rod in their hands, the deal will be clinched.

“Testimonials from the people using Sonik have been wonderful, and as the brand becomes more widespread on the banks our name will become synonymous with quality at the right price,” he said.
