Biggest pike of the year caught

The biggest pike of the year has been banked at a colossal 40lb.

It fell to the rod of predator hunter Ben Louer during a session on a secret Southern Pit.

Talking exclusively to’s news team at Angling Times, the Chalfont, Bucks-based angler lifted the lid on the ‘catch of a lifetime’.

“I was just landing a jack when the other rod steamed off. I bundled the jack over the net cord and struck the run straight away. Straight away I could tell it was a decent pike by the way it plodded away deep down,” he said.

Ben, who has already taken two 30lb pike from the water and a 4lb 4oz perch, lured the giant on legered lamprey.
