Fisheries expert Chris Vaughan has always wanted to catch a Burbot - a tricky ambition when you live in Bedfordshire and the species is extinct in the UK.
The head of the fisheries department at Shuttleworth College in Biggleswade had to venture to Austria and target the mighty River Danube in order to be in with a chance of catching his target species.
Fishing after dark Chris tempted the specimen from just below a large hydro-electric dam outside Vienna while braving snowy, sub-zero temperatures.
"I've always been fascinated by burbot and have always wanted to catch one on rod and line, but it has been really hard and I've had to be a bit of a die hard," Chris admitted to gofishing.co.uk
"At 12oz it's not exactly a giant but I'm really pleased. It's a lifelong ambition achieved," he added.
